Setting up the integration for receiving Slack notifications is easy. Just follow the steps below.

Receiving Slack notifications from Homerun

  1. From anywhere in the tool, click Settings in the sidebar

  2. Next, click Notifications

  3. Scroll down to Slack notifications and click Add to Slack

  4. Log in to your Slack workplace, if you haven’t already and select the channel where you want to receive notifications and click Allow

  5. Decide per channel which notifications (@mentions and/or new applications) you’d like to receive by switching the toggles

Good job! You can repeat the steps to add more channels. If you have any questions, feel free to send us a message.

Note: You can only use Slack channels that start with “@”, or the Slackbot to receive notifications when a team member mentions you in Homerun. These notifications won’t work for channels that start with “#”.

⭐ Homerun Pro-tip: You can create a new channel called #candidates in your workspace, then add that channel to the Homerun notifications in Slack and choose to receive a notification every time a new candidate applies in that channel. Every Slack user in that channel will receive the notification (even if they do not have a Homerun account).

You can also choose to receive notifications in your personal Slack channel (slackbot). This way your team members won’t be bothered by notifications when a team member mentions you.

How do the Slack notifications work with Homerun?

For the notifications to work properly, you’ll need both a paid Homerun account and a Slack account. You’ll receive real-time notifications through Slack, either when a new candidate has applied for your job(s) in Homerun and/or when a team member mentions you in a comment in Homerun.

When you set up the notifications, you allow Homerun to post to a Slack channel of your choice within your Slack workspace. You’ll be able to select the channel where you want to receive the notification(s). You can add as many channels as you like, and decide per channel, what notification you want to receive there. Homerun won’t be able to edit, change, or view any of your channels in your Slack workspace.

What will the notifications look like?

You’ll receive a notification every time a new candidate has applied for your job(s), and when a team member mentions you in a comment. The notification for a new application will look like this:

The notification when a team member has mentioned you in a comment will look like this:

Can I set up Slack notifications for my entire team, or just for me?

The notifications mostly work on a personal basis. You’ll only receive notifications of job openings you’re part of, either when a new candidate has applied and/or when you’re mentioned in a comment.

It’s not possible to set up the notifications for mentions for your team members. You can point them to this Help Center article, to help them set up their own Slack notifications.

Slack notifications and the GDPR

After you set up the notifications, Homerun will post to the designated channel(s) in your Slack workspace. Homerun won’t be able to edit, change or view any of your channels.

Also, no personal data from the candidates will be shared with Slack. The only information that will be shared with Slack is the first name of a Homerun user who sets up the notifications for mentions. The first name will be shown in the notification.
